Khyber Agency - Senior members of Hamza Baba literary Jirga Khyber Agency, poets and fans of the late Amir Hamza Khan Shinwari remembered as Baba-e-Pashto ghazal have demanded of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Engineer Shaukatullah to release funds for renovation, and library of Hamza Baba Cultural Complex at Landikotal lying in dilapidated condition since long.

The members of the Jirga held a grand Pashto mushaira at the Government Degree College Landikotal with Dad Mohammad Dilzos in the chair.

They demanded of the governor to release funds for the maintenance and renovation and library of the Hamza Baba Cultural Complex so that it could be made fully functional for literary, research and cultural activities.

They hoped that a civilian chief executive of the province and Fata will bring peace along with social, educational and cultural development to the restive region.

The lone Hamza Baba Cultural Complex in Fata located at a distance of 2km off Landikotal main bazaar needs major repair and renovation, appointment of necessary staff and also funds for its library to make it suitable for launching literary and cultural activities at the shrine of the Sufi poet.

The demand came during a grand Pashto mushaira through a resolution passed unanimously by participants and local elders.

Prior to the mushaira, young poet Tawab Shah Masroor and Muhammad Azam Ajiz presented thought-provoking research papers on the literary contributions of Amir Hamza.

They said that the late Sufi poet should be given his due honour and his literary works should be made public so that the young generation could draw lessons from his inspiring poetry and prose.

“The poetry of Hamza Baba is a great source of inspiration for our young generation. The research institutes should come forward to conduct substantive search on the hidden aspects of the great Sufi poet,” the speakers stressed on the occasion.

Prominent local poets including Niaz Ali, Javed Sheena, Qandahar Afridi, Muqadar Shah Muqadar, Kohat Khan Zakir, Saqib Afridi, Khaman Muntazir, Kalimullah Kalim Shinwari, President Khyber Adabi Jirga, Abdul Ghafoor Ghafoor, Intizar and Shahid Afridi paid rich tributes to Hamza Baba.
