Pemra to act against cable operators

LAHORE - Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority’s Regional Office Lahore launched a strict and rigorous campaign against the cable operators who are violating laws pertaining to relaying proscribed/ banned satellite channels and operating beyond their authorised area of operation.
All the cable operators who are involved in such violations, have been warned by the Regional Office, Lahore and its sub-offices operating at Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Sargodha to immediately stop the illegal practice of relaying banned channels and remain within the prescribed limits regarding CD channels.
They have also been directed to restrict their operation to the area mentioned on their licenses issued by Pemra. In case of any violation, strict legal action including seizures of the equipment being used for these violations as well as imposition of heavy fine shall be imposed.
Sub-offices at Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Sargodha also started taking legal action in this regard. The Pemra field staff, while inspecting different areas and cable operators, confiscated a number of equipment relating excessive/ unauthorised CD channels/content. Pemra Regional Office, Lahore hereby once again warned all the cable operators of Punjab Region to strictly follow the laws; otherwise legal action would be taken against the violators which might include confiscation of equipment, imposition of heavy fine and even cancellation of their CTV licenses.
