Capital police nabbed bank looters, killers during last 30 days

Islamabad - The City Zone of Islamabad police have arrested seven criminals involved in cases of looting a bank, auto-theft, murder and also recovered huge cache of narcotics and weapons during crackdown against criminals in the last 30 days.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, SP (City) Muhammad Iqbal said that Kohsar police arrested two persons involved in looting of Rs5.4 million from a bank. He said that Nabeel Masih used to work as a sweeper in the bank and he along with his friend Suleman Sarfraz made a plan to take away money from the ATM. They took away Rs5.4 million after entering the bank on February 10, 2018 via roof. The police recovered the looted amount from their houses and DVR from the forest area pointed out by the nabbed accused, he told the reporters.

The SP told that two bike-lifters were arrested by Kohsar police besides recovery of the stolen items. Following directions of SSP (Operations) Najee bur Rehman Bugvi, he said, crackdown was launched against drug-peddlers and eleven cases were registered during last one month besides recovery of huge cache of wine, hashish and heroin from the nabbed persons.

He said that 334 liter wine, 592 liquor bottles, 1365 gram hashish were recovered from them while nine pistols, two rifles, laptop, three bikes, cash Rs293,000,500 Riyal were also recovered from the criminals during last one month. He said that three persons, who stabbed to death one Hammad son of Shafqat Hussain, a resident of sector G-6/1-2, have been also arrested.

SP Ahmed Iqbal said that various projects have been started in Islamabad police as per vision of IGP Islamabad Sultan Azam Temuri and working environment in police stations is being improved. He said that reporting rooms are being set up as per international standard where highly qualified male and female staff would remain present at computerised front desk to lodge public complaints.

He said that supervisory officers would monitor the performance of these reporting rooms and complainants would have not come again and again as their issues would be resolved on immediate basis. He further said that conciliatory committees have been made functional at level of police stations where petty disputes are being settled.

He said that community policing system has been improved and Neighborhood Watch Committees have been constituted. He said that gender and child protection centres have been established for protection to the rights of women and children. An emergency call centre (8090) has been set up at Women police station to respond quickly to complaints and address them by immediately approaching the complainants.
