Mardan - Commissioner Mardan Division Muntazir Khan on Tuesday said that 330000 trees of different types would be planted in Mardan region in the current spring plantation campaign.

He expressed these views while taking to the media after inauguration of spring plantation campaign at Express Way near Babuzai Katlang Interchange.

District Forest Officer (DFO) Shah Hussain, Assistant Commissioner Kamran Khan, local journalists and members of Youth Parliament were also present on the occasion. He said that without trees life was impossible as it was need of time that we should plant as many trees as possible. He said that trees were also important for wildlife because many species of wildlife depend on trees for habitat and trees provided food, protection, and homes for many birds and mammals.

Commissioner said that trees gave off oxygen that we needed to breathe. He said that trees also reduced the amount of storm water runoff which reduced erosion and pollution in our waterways and may reduce the effects of flooding. He said that tress had many benefits.

In line with the vision of the Prime Minister, he said, the concept of clean and green Pakistan would be put into practice in the district. He said that the Forest and Irrigation Department was playing a dynamic and full role in this regard.

“By planting thousands of plants on both sides of the Swat Expressway we will not only control the pollution of the environment but also try to enhance the natural beauty on both sides of the Express way,” he said.
