2200 affected traders submit forms

KARACHI - Karachi Chambers of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has announced to open KCCIs Secretariat on Sunday (today) in order to facilitate the affectees of Bolton Market and other adjoining markets of MA Jinnah Road. The KCCI assured that office bearers, managing committee members, heads and members of seven sub-committees and secretariat staff will be available on Sunday from 11:00 am till 04:00 pm to facilitate and the affectees as well as authorised representatives of affected markets may contact KCCI to submit their claims, survey/ maps of damaged/ destroyed markets/ buildings for reconstruction along with necessary information. They also requested that claim forms, survey/ offers for reconstruction of damaged/ destroyed buildings must be submitted positively by January 20, 2010, afterwards the same would not be received and entertained. Meanwhile, Chairman, Karachi Affected Markets Relief Committee and Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh, Muhammad Zubair Motiwala, in a statement, recalled and reiterated the intent that the relief cheques to the victims of tragic incident of 28 December, 2009 will start likely from this month. He stated that 7 special desks are established at Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry which are processing and scrutinising the claim forms with the consultation of authorised representatives of affected markets. He said that the members at the said desks are performing with honesty and dedication and about 2200 forms have been processed till date and 60 per cent work is completed. Zubair Motiwala conveyed his gratitude to Governor Sindh, Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan and Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah for expressing their complete satisfaction on the performance of relief committee. He further stated that, yesterday, Sindhs Home Minister, Dr Zulfiqar Ali Mirza, especially visited KCCI to observe the performance and pace of work and expressed his complete satisfaction. Zubair Motiwala appealed the media that before publishing the news, they should not pay attention to speculations and rather examine and verify the authenticity of news while contacting the former President and spokesman of KAMRC, AQ Khalil accordingly. He informed that the next meeting of Karachi Affected Markets Relief Committee has been called on January 22 whereby all the received claims, after processing and scrutiny, the absolute claim amount will be specified and determined and initially payments against small claims will be disbursed. He said that instructions are given to process and scrutinise all claims being submitted by January 20, 2010. Zubair Motiwala said that unanimous consensus is maintained on the issue of reconstruction of destroyed markets/ buildings and affectees will be given same possession as they had on 28-December 2009 after the reconstruction by the Government of Sindh. Consequently, Letter of Intents are called through advertisement and KAMRC will decide on January 22. He expressed his gratitude to all the affectees/ victims and their representatives for showing their patience and cooperation in this regard.
