LAHORE (PPI) - APTMA delegation called on Asif Ali Zardari, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan at Governor House and represented textile industry problems and the way forward for the textile industry. APTMA Centre and the Punjab Chairmen apprised of issues of the textile industry including curb on the export of yarn, energy supply disruption including gas and electricity, unbearable electricity tariff issues. Textile spinning industry already carrying fragile financials cannot sell its produce below the international market prices. The government should not introduce measures leading to cross transfer of resources from one section to another sub-sectors. APTMA representatives were assured by the President that the government is against any intervention in the Free Market Mechanism. Minister informed that one measure of quantitative restriction shall be for 50,000 tons per month for export of cotton yarn exclusive of value added yarns. The government has very clearly told to the fragmented value added sub- sectors to learn to live in the global market place with no governmental intervention, support or measure in future. The President of Pakistan assured to APTMA delegation on matters concerning availability of energy supply and to explore options for extending separate tariff for the export-oriented textile industry.
