LAHORE President Asif Ali Zardari has said he is keeping an eagle eye on the conspirators and will never let them succeed. Addressing PIA employees and PPP workers at Governors House on the fourth day of his visit to the city on Saturday, Zardari said his eyes were not closed to 'thieves and those who were conspiring against the government. I know how to defeat them with political insight, the President said amid loud slogans by jialas. Challenging his political rivals, the President said upcoming local bodies elections would let the opponents know whether people are with them or with us. He said this time the polls would be transparent and fair, and no tactics of changing results and manoeuvring of the ballots or polling stations would work. Addressing the people of Punjab, he said they would also be given jobs and their rights would be ensured, but they must show patience for the time being. Zardari said time demands of all democratic forces and the people to get united on one platform in the war against terrorism. He said a handful of terrorists wanted to ruin our economy through their acts and the priority of his government is to defeat them. Referring to his discussion with an American general in relation to the arrival of terrorists near the hills in Islamabad, the President said with confidence that Pakistan has such jawans, officers and people who never shirk from laying down their lives for the country and very well know how to defend it and they lived up to it. He said he wanted to protect and promote economy of the country for the sake of the poor as such he was fully committed to rout the terrorists. He said protection of the country and rights of the masses was his mission which he would fulfil. He said Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto laid down their lives for the rights of the poor and he would also like to embrace martyrdom treading the same path. Zardari said Balochistan is future of our generations to come. This province is replete with petrol and natural resources which we have to use for the coming generations particularly the people of Balochistan. He said landless poor would be given land in their respective province, adding his government was building dams in every province keeping in view needs of the masses there. He said his thinking was pro-poor and for the protection of their rights but certain misguided people did not agree with it. He said he firmly believed that prosperity of the poor is prosperity of the country. He also hinted at increasing salaries of the poor as of their right. Zardari said murderers of Benazir thought her assassination would end her thoughts and the voice for the poor, but contrary to that today she was living in every house. Meanwhile, Zardari spent yet another busy day and met various delegations at Governor House on Saturday. Zardari began his day by distributing shares to the labourers under Benazir Employees Stock Option Scheme. He, later on inaugurated three projects at Governor House that include Benazir Shaheed Information Technology Park, Mian Channu-Raiwind Double Railway Track and Premnagar Dry port. He also met members of partys Punjab Executive Body and Punjab Council. Zardari met with Members of Punjab Assembly and Senators from Punjab and also hosted a dinner in their honour. Zardari also inaugurated partys membership drive for the province. Earlier, talking to the delegation of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), President said that he would promulgate an ordinance for providing relief to the doctors community if there was any possibility in the law for not registering cases against the doctors under Section 302. Meanwhile, members of PIA Employees Association (Peoples Unity) have also met with President and co-chairman of PPP at Governor House. APP adds: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani called on President Zardari at the Governor House on Saturday evening. During the meeting, matters relating to political as well as security situation in the country came under discussion. Meanwhile, Zardari said that the PPP would be reorganised with due thrust on induction of the youth at grassroots level. A lot of things have to be improved in the party as nobody is perfect, said the President, who is also PPP Co-Chairman, while addressing a joint meeting of the partys Punjab Executive and Punjab Council at Governors House here. Secretary General PPP, Jehangir Badar, Governor Punjab Salman Taseer and members of Punjab Executive and Punjab Council including federal ministers Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Imtiaz Safdar Warraich attended the meeting. He said the party was committed to work under the philosophy of Shaheed ZAB and Benazir Bhutto, adding PPP was struggling against the radical forces which were against the liberal philosophy of the PPP. I am working to improve the liberal image of the party which some extremist elements tried to damage after Benazirs assassination, he added. PPP was fully alive that it had to defeat these forces to improve the image of the party at world level, Zardari maintained. He said 180 million people of Pakistan believed in liberal policies introduced by PPP founder ZAB while radicals who accounted for only 10 per cent were trying to damage the image of the country. I have visited 25 countries of the world to improve the image of the country and the party globally, he said. Zardari directed the party leadership to expedite the drive for bringing maximum number of youth in the party fold. He also reviewed the organisational matters of the party and assured that all possible steps would be taken to strengthen the party. Members of the Punjab Executive and Punjab Council presented suggestions to the co-chairman for strengthening the party at grass root level. The PPP leaders reposing full confidence in the leadership of President Zardari said his visit to Punjab would help strengthen the party in the province.
