Decline of cinema

Only 12 feature films were released last year. Thus 2010 turned out to be the worst year of the decade for the Pakistans film industry, whereas during 2009 year, 14 films were released. Nevertheless, 2001 was better in the sense as 48 films were released. Out of 12; only 3 were Urdu and rest were Punjabi films. Nevertheless, some Pashto films were locally released limited to one city of Peshawar. The Sindhi film industry is already in a poor shape despite the fact that some beautiful and popular films were released in the past. In fact, ex-army dictator General Zia-ul-Haq may be mainly blamed for the ruination of film industry as he was the worst enemy of cultural promotion. It is also sad to note that the successor governments did nothing for the revival of our film industry. The people of Pakistan already lack entertainment facilities as a result of which frustration and psychological complications have increased among masses tremendously. Will the present elected government do something positive to enable our film industry to stand on its own feet and produce quality movies and provide healthy entertainment instead of increasing frustration in our society?
