The district narrowly escaped a disaster following the recovery of three suicide jackets from Jhang Branch Canal near a seminary, about six kilometer from here on Friday.
According to police sources, some fishermen spotted some suspicious material floating in the canal water and informed the police.
Acting on the information, District Civil Defence Officer Ali Imran along with bomb disposal squad and police rushed to the spot and recovered three suicide jackets, containing 30 kilograms of explosive material. The bomb disposal squad defused the explosive material.
Meanwhile, heavy police contingent cordoned off the entire area and have carried out raids on different “undisclosed places” to ascertain who have thrown these suicide jackets into the canal.
It is presumed that would-be suicide bombers have thrown these suicide vests to avert arrest following a vigorous crackdown launched by the police to lasso militants and suspected elements.
Meanwhile, Hafizabad DPO Shakir Hussain Dawar confirmed that the suicide jackets had been defused by the bomb disposal squad. “Had theses jackets exploded there would have been colossal loss to human lives,” he maintained. He further said that the police had launched an operation on war-footings to trace and apprehend the culprits.
ACTING ON SUNNAH STRESSED: DCO Muhammad Usman has called upon the Muslims to adopt teachings of Holy Prophet (PBUH) for resolving most of the problems prevailing in society.
Addressing a gathering at District Complex here in connection with Miladun Nabi, he said that most of the problems confronting the nation were due to deviation from the teachings of Holy Quran and Sunnah. He said that Islam was panacea of all ills prevailing in the society. He called upon them to shun their petty sectarian differences and forge greater unity for the glorification of Islam and salvation in the world and Hereafter.
