Abduction, gang rape

I RPO takes action as relatives of victim girl claim police siding with accused

Rawalpindi-A cop along with his accomplice involved in kidnapping and gang rapping a 19-year-old college girl managed to flee from courtroom after the judge rejected their pre-arrest bails in Gujar Khan, sources said on Tuesday.

The parents of the victim girl accused the police investigators of helping the rapists in escaping from the courtroom and approached Regional Police Officer (RPO) for action against the investigators.

According to the details, Jatli police had booked a policeman, Rahil Mir, his brother Nabil Mir and Sadia, wife of Nabil, on charges of kidnapping a girl, J, from Mughal Colony, Sukho on November 25, 2017. The police recovered the abducted girl and taken her to Holy Family Hospital for medico-legal examination. The doctors in their reports confirmed that the girl had been gang rapped.

Later, the police inserted section 376 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) in the FIR besides including the name of another accused, Moheen Akhter, following the statement of the victim girl she recorded before an area magistrate.

Sub Inspector Akram Niazi, posted as in-charge of Doltala Police Picket and investigating the case, along with his team produced the four accused before the court of Additional and Session Judge Tariq Khurshid Khawaja and pleaded to reject the bails of two accused Rahil Mir and Moheen Akhter after they were proved guilty during the investigation. The investigators, however, cleared the other two accused, Nabil Mir and his wife Sadia, as not guilty and appealed the court to confirm their bails. On this, the judge refused to confirm interim bails of two accused, Rahil Mir, the cop, and Moheen Akhter and ordered the police to arrest them. The judge confirmed interim bails of the two other accused.

However, Rahil and Moheen managed to flee from the court premises while leaving the police party with red faces. The parents and relatives of the victim girl held a protest demonstration against the police in the court and chanted slogans against them.
Meanwhile, Azhar Mehmood, uncle of the victim girl, appeared before RPO Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja and lodged a complaint against the incident, alleging that the police investigators including SI Akram Niazi had been taking side of the accused involved in kidnapping and raping his niece.
He added that the SI Akram first twisted facts during the interrogation and gave clean chit to the two accused, Nabil and Sadia, while helped the two other accused in fleeing from the court after the judge rejected their bails in the case. He said that the police wanted to save the skin of the cop, Rahil Mir. The applicant appealed the RPO to take departmental action against the police investigators.
Consequently, the RPO summoned SHO Jatli Sana Ullah and SI Akram Niazi for inquiry. SHO Sana and Akram Niazi did not attend their cell phones when this correspondent tried to get their versions.
