It is quite good to note that the Punjab government has made an offer of cooperation to the Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) Chairman Dr. Tahirul Qadri in Model Town killings provided his prime objective is to seek justice in the matter.

According to the reports in the media, PML (N) Information Secretary and Federal Minister Mushahidullah Khan while making the offer have said that convergence of opposition parties in Lahore the other day on the PAT call over the Model Town incident is artificial and only for scoring some political points.

He has quite rightly asked the opposition political parties to have patience, and wait for five or six months for the upcoming general election and then go to the electorate to see their popularity among the people at large. He said that only 13 parties had participated in the moot and not 40 as claimed by the opposition parties as such.

He reiterated that the provincial government is willing to talk to Dr. Qadri and extend full cooperation in securing justice for the victim families if this is the sole objective. He added that the opposition parties could not build pressure by demanding the resignation of the Punjab Chief Minister and the Provincial Law Minister and they will not succeed in using the matter for some political gains. He reiterated that nobody would be allowed to take the law into his hand and disturb civic life by staging sit-ins on the issue as the courts are there to be approached and not letting the common man’s life and business disturbed in any manner.

The federal minister, as well as the Punjab government spokesman Malik Muhammad Ahmad, have asked Dr. Qadri to present evidence in the court to get justice. In all fairness, this positive and quite sincere offer should be given due consideration by the PAT Chairman if getting justice for the victim families is the sole objective at all.
