KARACHI - Malir SSP Rao Anwar survived a suicide attack on his convoy late on Tuesday night in Karachi. The attack occurred when SSP Anwar was on his way to home from his office as per routine along with a police squad at Malir Cantonment area.
“SSP Anwar has been survived in the attack,” confirmed Karachi police chief Mushtaq Mahar while talking to the media. Police officials believed it was a suicide bombing.
“A suicide bomber hit a motorcycle with SSP Anwar’s convoy,” police officials said. “SSP Anwar remained unhurt as he was on his armoured personnel carrier (APC).”
The blast also damaged the APC and police mobiles as well.
The police guards of District Malir SSP quickly responded and killed another suspected attacker at the spot while another comrade had been managed to escape from the scene.
Extra contingent of law enforcers including police and Rangers reached the site and inquired about the incident as well as collected the evidences. Experts from the bomb disposal squad also reached the site. Police officials said that at least three militants attacked the convoy when the convoy reached Malir Cantonment area. SSP Anwar has been posted in District Malir from the last four years and have been killed over 150 militants of various banned outfits in various encounters.
Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal also phoned to SSP Anwar and inquired about his health. He also sought a report from DIG East over the incident.
