ISLAMABAND (APP) - The Central Development Working Party (CDWP), in its meeting scheduled on Friday (today), is likely to approve 25 water projects, costing over Rs.1.019 trillion, with foreign exchange component (FEC) of over Rs348 billion, a top official of the ministry of Planning and Development Division said. The CDWP meeting to be held under the chairmanship of Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, Sardar Assef Ahmed Ali will consider approval of 25 small and big water projects and dams, including Diamer-Bhasha Dam. The CDWP is likely to approve Rs929.8 billion-mega project of Diamer Basha Dam in Northern Areas to overcome power crisis in the country, informed sources added. For Balochistan, the CDWP is expected to be approved eight water projects costing over Rs. 38.666 billion including Winder Dam Project (Lasbela), Hingol Dam detail Engineering design and tender documents (PC-II) Lasbela Balochistan, Hingo Dam Multipurpose Project (Lasbela Balochistan), Naulong Dam project-detailed engineering design and tender documents PC-II (Jhal Magsi), Naulong Dam project (Jhal Magsi), Pelar Storage dam Awaran and Garuk Storage Dam, Kharan, the sources said. All, the projects, they said would be sponsored by the Ministry of Water and Power. For NWFP, the CDWP is likely to approve five water projects worth Rs.24.090 billion including Construction of Mardan Khel Dam in district Karak, construction of Ghol Banda dam, district Karak detailed design of Sheikh Haider Zam and Chaoudwan project (PCC-II), Bara Multipurpose dam project, Khyber agency and Daraban Zam dam project. The sources added that the projects would be sponsored by the Ministry of Water and Water. They further said that the CDWP would also approve five dams costing over Rs. 21.603 billion for Sindh province. The projects to be approved would be: construction of Darawat (Baran) dam on Nai Baran near Thano Bulla Khan in district Thatta/Dadu consultancy service for survey investigations detailed design, tender documents and PC is of seven dams in Koshistan region, Sindh (PC-II), Nai Gaj dam project, district Dadu, Khadeija dam project and Sita dam project to be sponsored by Ministry of Water and Power. Similarly, the CDWP will also likely approve seven projects for Punjab. The projects include construction of Punjab dam, district Rawalpindi, construction of Jamalwala dam (Chakwal), construction of Lawa Dam (Chakwal), construction of Mohra Sheras dam (Chakwal). The other three projects in Punjab include construction of Mujahid dam Rawalpindi, construction of Ghabir dam, district Chakwal and construction of Kot Fateh Khan dam district Attock would be sponsored by the government of Punjab.
