LANDI KOTAL At least ten persons were killed and more than a dozen got injured as a result of a heavy bomb blast here in Tehsil Jamrud, Khyber Agency on Friday, official sources said. A planted explosive device went off on Friday morning in the weekend fair in Mehraban Kalay area, killing 10 persons while injuring 15 others. Due to non-availability of medical facilities, the wounded were shifted to Peshawar hospital for their treatment. According to the locals, a large number of tribal people were present at the site of the blast, busy in shopping and other activities. The identification of the deceased could not be ascertained. Three shops were also destroyed in the blast. Sharing the details of the incident, Jamrud Assistant Political Agent (APA) Rehan Gul Khattik said the bomb was planted in one of a shop in the fair and blasted when the people were busy in buying goods. He also confirmed the casualties that had taken place in the blast. AFP adds: A bomb blast ripped through a busy car market in Khyber Agency, killing 10 civilians including children, officials said. The explosion rocked Kuki Khel town in Khyber, on the NATO supply route into Afghanistan. Ten people have been killed, there were three children among the dead, Khyber district senior official Shafee-rullah Khan told AFP. The timed device was planted in a ditch in a crowded market where people buy and sell second-hand cars, he said. Two intelligence officials also confirmed the death toll, saying three shops and four cars were destroyed. Officials described the area as a stronghold of Lashkar-e-Islam, a militant group that has carried out vigilante-style campaigns, kidnappings, shootings and attacks in Khyber. The group has been the target of military operations.
