ISLAMABAD (APP) - Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) discovered significant gas reserves from exploratory well Sheikhan No 1 located in district Kohat of Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa. The discovery at Shekhan Well No. 1 was made in the third week of June in Lumshiwal formation which produced 15 MW CFD gas through 32/64" choke size at well head flowing pressure 2,500 PSI. The gas of good quality with 96 per cent methane and 1041 BTU/SCF heating value. The other partners of Kohat Exploration Licence with OGDCL, are Tullow Pakistan Developments Limited, Mari Gas Company and SAIF Energy Limited. Shekhan Well No. 1 was spudded on 12th November, 2009 and drilled down to the depth of 2810 meter targeting potential of Kingriali, Datta, Shinawari, Samanasuk, Lumshiwal, Hungu and Lockhart formations. Due to sub-surface structural complexities, Kingriali and Datta formations were not encountered down to drilled depth. The structure of well as delineated, drilled and tested utilising indigenous expertise. The discovery will add to hydrocarbon reserves base of the company and joint venture partners.
