This refers to a news item printed in your newspaper datelined Islamabad with a headline Stubborn Magsi continues to make people suffer (July 14). That reminded me of General (Rtd) Musharrafs era when his Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi had imposed a ban on inter-provincial movement of wheat, exactly the way Nadir Magsi has done now. I remember Mr Elahi had been asked by three different Prime Ministers of the Musharraf governmentMir Zafraulah Khan Jamali, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, and Shaukat Aziz to lift the ban on inter-provincial movement of wheat. The demand remained persistent but unrequited through out despite great hue and cry being made by rest of the three provinces. Chuadhry Pervaiz Elahi never budged an inch. Without wishing to defend anyone in the present government, I wish to ask a simple question; Was the ban imposed by Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi right or wrong? If it was wrong, why didnt you hacks make the same hue and cry then? Because he was representing Punjab, right? -MOHAMMAD KHAN SIAL, Karachi, July 15.
