ISLAMABAD - PML-N MNA Anjum Aqeel Saturday surrendered to Islamabad Police after nearly 24 hours of his escape from police custody with the help of his supporters. Talking to TheNation IGP Islamabad Bin Yamin said Anjum was supposed to address a press conference in F-8. However, police had an eye on his movements. Two police mobile vehicles escorted Anjums motorcade from the Karachi Company and took straight to Kohsar Police Station of city circle. Commandos have been deployed for the security of the police station, IGP added. To a question, he said a special crackdown and search operation would be launched to apprehend rest of the accused who helped Anjum escape from police custody on Friday evening. Task force comprising commandos of Islamabad police will perform this job, he maintained. IGP said Shaheen Akbar, brother-in-law among 10 other close relatives of PML-N MNA were on five-day remand with Islamabad Police, however, other 21 supporters were sent on judicial remand to Adiala Jail. IGP said a departmental inquiry against 12 cops had been initiated to fix the responsibility. He added that a charge-sheet had been framed for departmental inquiry. Besides that, a judicial inquiry was also being conducted by Deputy Commissioner Islamabad to fix the responsibility, he added. When contacted PML-N Senator Pervaiz Rashid said his party had no contact with Anjum after the Fridays incident outside Shalimar Police Station. Rashid said the party would take action against Anjum after investigating the incident. He urged Anjum to surrender himself to the police saying, No one should be allowed to take the law into his or her own hands. He said a committee under the supervision of Raja Zafarul Haq had been constituted to probe the violation of party discipline made by the said lawmaker. MNAs Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Dr Fazal Chaudhry, Khurrum Dastigir and Begum Nuzhat Sadiq will be the committee members, he added. According to FIR No. 461 dated July 15(available with TheNation), police have nominated 36 persons while the number of people yet to be identified is 60. The case was registered at Shalimar Police Station under Sections 427, 109, 224, 225B, 225, 149, 148, 188, 186, 353, 324 of CrPc and 7-ATA against the accused. Another FIR was logged against 12 cops of Islamabad police including SP and an SHO under Sections 223,224,225 of CrPc. However, all the cops were granted bail by area assistant commissioner on Saturday. It would be relevant to mention here that Islamabad police in three criminal cases had got arrest warrants of Anjum Aqeel from Civil Judge Rai Liaqat Ali Kharal. Anjum Aqeel was wanted by police in FIR No 114 dated March 5, 2010, lodged at Sahlimar Police station by Shabat Ali. The complaint pleaded that he had purchased a plot No.834 in Sector E-11 from M/S Land Linkers, a firm of Anjum Aqeel against a sum of Rs.950,000, however, Anjum never transferred the plot to Shabat Ali.
