LAHORE - The inquiry tribunal on Wednesday handed over cell phones data of the Punjab chief minister, Rana Sanaullah, Dr Tauqeer Shah and 15 others to Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) for analysis .
As the proceedings commenced, three cellular companies - Mobilink, Ufone and Warid - provided the data before the tribunal which was handed over to ISI Deputy Director Asad Ali. Justice Ali Baqar Najfi asked the ISI official how much time he would take to analyse the given data . Upon which the official replied that after 48 hours, he would be able to accomplish the task.
Meanwhile, Shahid Naseem Gondal submitted an application stating that media should be restrained from publishing the tribunal remarks as it would prejudice the inquiry process. He requested the court to issue directions for the media outlets not to cover the tribunal’s proceedings.
Justice Najfi dismissed the application and remarked that media is independent and sanctions could not be imposed on it. He said the tribunal never passed remarks which would be prejudicial to the investigation or trial of the accused. He said the tribunal is very careful in this regard.
Advocate Aftab Bajwa said that SHO Rizwan Qadar Hashmi was made complainant of the FIR by showing him as the eyewitness. He said he is not the eyewitness as the record showed that he was admitted to a hospital well before the killings of the people. He requested the court to unearth the truth behind this episode.
Later, Abdullah Malik, member of civil society, appeared before the judge and said since first day he has been assisting the tribunal but a few days back his car was stolen from the court premises. He said his car was stolen only because he was appearing before the tribunal.
Hearing this, the tribunal summoned Additional IG Altaf Hussain on the rostrum and asked him to discuss the matter with the IGP. Abdullah said the Punjab chief minister would be responsible in case anyone is harmed anyway in future.
Advocate Mushtaq Mohl filed an application and asking the tribunal to summon the phone record of Dr Tahirul Qadri, both of his sons and administration of Pakistan Awami Tehrik. At this the judge said their phone data has no relevance with the matter. As the applicant insisted over it, the tribunal said the data would be summoned if required.
The proceedings adjourned till July 18 (tomorrow).
