DUBLIN (APP) - Pakistan's agile right winger Rehan Butt was declared best player of a 4-nation tournament here, a distinction he achieved for the second in 42-day tiring tour of national team for the build up of Beijing Olympics. Rehan scored five goals in four matches to remain the top scorer at Dublin before getting the award of best player of the tournament in Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh with 9 goals in seven matches. Pakistan finished fourth in the Cup.He said he was delighted to achieve two distinctions in tiresome tour for team's preparations for Olympics. "It was difficult to play back to back hockey, flying from one place to another and I am happy that I did my best in the role of a forward and I am glad that we ended our tour on a morale boosting note by winning the 4-nation tournament," he said. He said the team is getting better with each passing day and visible improvement has been seen in its performance right from the start of the tour from Malaysia till its end in Ireland."Team management is making sincere efforts to blend youth with experience and that is why junior players were exposed to higher level of the team and I am confident that it was the right way to learn competitive hockey," he said. The former captain said it is essential that players, no matter, senior or junior play high quality hockey by taking part in European league, which is serving as a launching platform for the junior players. "League is big way to groom players rapidly as they get the chance to play in the presence of worlds best players and we must encourage them to feature in league because they more they play the more they will be useful for the national team," he added. Rehan said he looks forward to support his team in future and his life time ambition is to play a vital role in teams success in Beijing Olympics.
