LAHORE - Punctuality statistics for the 30 largest scheduled airlines at Manchester Airport has placed PIA at the bottom of the list with average delays of over 34.33 minutes per flight out of 891 flights operated during the year 2009, sources in the national flag carrier revealed on Wednesday. 'Flight On Time a monitoring body, which observes airline punctuality at UK airports, has released statistics for scheduled airlines operating to and from Manchester Airport. A total of 131,331 flights were analysed, out of which PIA operated 891 flights to Manchester with Boeing 777 aircrafts for the period from Jan to Dec 2009. Delays of over one hour, but less than 3 hours, constituted 11.34 per cent of the total PIA flights, while delays of over 3 hours are 4.04 per cent of total flights. BMI Regional tops the punctuality list with average delays of 4.16 minutes and an overall punctuality of 93.44 per cent, out of a total of 7,803 flights operated by it. KLM is second with 91.39 per cent and VLM is third with 90.39 per cent. Air France is placed at number 10 with punctuality of 83.83 per cent. Turkish Airlines is at number 29 with average delays of 30.03 minutes and punctuality of 49.94 per cent. The punctuality factor is based on delays of over 15 minutes from scheduled time, which means delays of under 15 minutes are considered on time. In a report published by Guardian, the Local Council at Leeds Bradford Airport have scrutinised 32 breaches of planning rules over noisy night time violations by PIA flights from Islamabad. Late running PIA flight to Islamabad have created all the breaches in rules, which are aimed at protecting residents in neighbouring Aireborough, Horsforth and beyond from being disturbed by the late night flights between 11 PM to 7 AM. Delays in PIA flights have caused these noise violations, since the noise level restrictions become more stringent at night. It should be noted that Flight Stats, a US-based agency, monitoring flight punctuality of all major scheduled and non-scheduled airlines of the world has placed PIA as the second poor performing airline in the world. Aviation industry analysts and travel agencies located in Pakistan state this deterioration in punctuality of PIA is a recent phenomenon, which has developed in the last two years because of poor management. The present PIA management disbanded the Flight Despatch section, that monitored and co-ordinated its worldwide and domestic operations and this has led to a serious crisis affecting the airline regularity. When contacted spokesman of PIA, he said that the 'flight on time council is not an authority to check the punctuality rate of PIA, so the above said information is not based on facts. PIA punctuality rate could only be checked by International Air Transport Authority (IATA).
