Five of family killed in car ambush

LAHORE Terror and fear gripped the entire Manga Mandi locality, shortly after the gunmen ambushed a private car with automatic weapons and gunned down at least five people of a family including a 50-year-old man and his two sons on early Thursday. Police investigators said that the deceased persons were going to appear before a local court in connection with a case regarding property dispute when their opponents opened indiscriminate firing at their vehicle near Jalliana More. Haji Barkat Ali, a resident of Moza Jalliana Wala, along with his two sons Ahmed Ali, 28, Muhammad Amin Ali 25, and nephews Mohammad Fayyaz, 26, and Muhammad Nawaz, 30, left their house to reach a local court on early Thursday. As they reached near Jalliana More on their vehicle (LEB-168), their opponent Murtaza alias Piya along with his four other accomplices opened indiscriminate firing, targeting their vehicle from a close distance. The killers also resorted to aerial firing and later managed to escape from the crime scene without facing any resistance. Meanwhile, heavy police contingents including senior officers rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. All the car riders sustained multiple bullet wounds, police investigators said. Haji Barkat Ali and his two sons Ahmed Ali and Muhammad Amin Ali died on the spot while his nephews later identified as Mohammad Fayyaz and Muhammad Nawaz were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they succumbed to bullet wounds. Police investigators said that the killers had old enmity with the deceased persons over property dispute and several people have been murdered from both sides during the last couple of years. Police sources said that many emotional scenes were witnessed at the crime scene as a good number of family members and close relatives of the deceased persons reached there and made hue and cry. More police contingents were also sent to the spot to keep the situation under control as the innocent killings angered the mourners. The police have removed all the five dead bodies to the morgue for autopsy. The police are investigating with no arrest made so far. Police said that senior police investigators also visited the crime scene and collected evidences of the gruesome killings. The broad daylight killings spread a wave a terror in the entire locality as hundreds of local residents gathered on the spot and witnessed the bloodshed. Girl commits suicide: A 22-year-old girl committed suicide by swallowing poisonous pills here in Shahdra area, police said on Thursday. Shahnaz Bibi, a resident of Fazal Park, confined herself in the bed room and took poisonous pills. The deceased family told the police that the girl took poisonous pills after a brief altercation with her mother over some domestic dispute.
