'Loadshedding may reduce next month

ISLAMABAD (APP) - Director General of PEPCO Ejaz Rafique Qureshi said on Thursday that the govt would soon overcome loadshedding in the country because 572 MW power would be added to the national grid by new plants in near future. Talking to PTV, he said that during the three years 3000MW electricity had been included in the system while 1000 MW more was added during the last four months. He hoped that loadshedding would be reduced in the month of July. He said that to fill the gap between demand and supply the load management has been made in the cities for 3 to 4 hours and in the rural areas from 8 to 10 hours. The DG PEPCO said that currently there is demand of 17,000 MW across the country while last year this was 13,000 to 14,000 MW. He said that during last one year demand of power increased by 3,000 MW, increasing the duration of loadshedding. He said four major projects, including Dhepur 425MW, Gaddo 750MW, UAE gifted plant 320MW and one in Faisalabad would be completed soon. To a question, he said that Tarbela extension project was under way, which on completion would generate power from 3478MW to 4828MW. The DG said that Thar coal projects had been launched to overcome the power crisis.
