The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday took up a petition into the killing of journalist Saleem Shahzad filed by the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalist (PFUJ), seeking formation of a probe commission led by an SC judge. The PFUJ filed the petition through its lawyers, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Asma Jahangir and Munir A Malik. A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the case. The bench issued notices to the Secretaries of Information, Interior and Law ministries and sought replies by Monday. The CJ remarked rules were not followed in appointing justice Saqib Nisar as probe commission head.The bench directed the federal and Punjab police to send their investigation officers in the court probing the case.
