Low lying areas of the city submerged in rainwater after four-hour torrential rain accompanied by thunderstorm here.
The rainwater entered into dozens of houses in Muslim Gunj areas eroding household items. Worst effected localities were Tariq Road, Khalid Road, Bhiki Road and its adjoin residential areas. In Jehangirabad Mohallah, the roof of house of labourer Dilawar collapsed injuring three family members. Some main roads of the city including Lahore-Sargodha Road, Railway Road, Bhiki Road, Ghang Road and other street turned into streams.
A large number of people residing the areas of Khadim Hussain Road, Basti Balochan, Landa Market, Stadium Road and other areas protested in front of Press Club against the poor performance of Tehsil Municipal Administration. The protesters led by Jamil, a social worker, blamed the TMA had already spent Rs40 million to construct and improve sewerage and drainage system in the city but provided no relief to the people.
The protester leaders said this amount had been embezzled. They demanded that the Punjab chief minister should hold an impartial inquiry into the issue.
Minor shot dead:
A six year old girl was shot dead when three persons opened fire over a monitoring dispute in Momanabad locality in the remit of City Farooqabad police.
Mohsan, Ahsan and Mushtaq had a monitory dispute with Khadim Hussain, father of the deceased, Iqras. After exchanging hot words with the girl’s father, the intruders infuriated and opened fire. Resultantly, Iqra died on the spot while her father escaped the attack. City Farooqabad police have started investigation.
