AHMEDPUR EAST
Led by a former MNA, the growers and inhabitants of three union councils of  Bunwala, Chenab Rasoolpur and Bakhtiari staged a demonstration on the bank of River Chenab against the Punjab government's plan to divert the water of Chenab River at a cost of Rs140 million.
Former MNA Arif Aziz Sheikh addressing the media and protestors alleged that the Punjab government had planned to construct a new bund near Chandar Bhan Bund to save some areas of Alipur for which the river water would be diverted. He termed the plan unacceptable and warmed that with the implementation of the plan, dozens of villages of three union councils would be affected and inundated in floods.
The PPP leader demanded that the government should not execute the project in Ahmedpur East. He said that the sanctioned grant for Alipur subdivision should not be spent in Ahmedpur East. He announced to stage a sit-in in front of Cheef Minister Secretariat in Lahore along with hundreds of growers.
