The death of a theft suspect allegedly due to torture by the Sheikhupura Saddr Police in village Thattha Tarran sparked a massive protest as the bereaved family members accompanied by scores of locals blocked Faisalabad Road near Nawan Kot for more than two hours.

According to details, acting on a tip-off that a suspect namely Sarfraz involved in various theft cases had holed up in village Thattha Tarren, the police raided the place and overpowered the suspect who tried to flee the scene. In the meanwhile the suspect put up resistance during which the police tortured him critically. However, he could not bear the injuries in scorching heat and died on the spot.

Following the incident, the family members accompanied by scores of locals placed the dead body on Faisalabad Road near Nawan Kot and blocked it for all kind of traffic in protest against the police torture. They chanted slogans against the killing of their loved one and demanded action against the police officials. Meanwhile, a police contingent reached the site and got dispersed the protesters by assuring them of appropriate action against the cops involved in the incident.  On the other hand, the DPO have ordered an inquiry into the incident and assured the aggrieved family of bring the responsible police personnel to the book.
