Fake arms license: SC sets 5-day deadline to Interior Secretary and DG FIA

Rejecting the report of the Interior Ministry on fake weapon license, Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) has ordered Interior Secretary and DG FIA to investigate and submit their reports within five days to the court about irregularities in issuance of arms licences. A three-member bench of Supreme Court with CJ Chaudhry in command comprised on Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday and Justice Chaudhary Ijaz heard the fake weapon license case on Wednesday. The interior ministry presented the report in the Apex Court on fake weapon license which was rejected by it and raised questions over not cancellation of fake licenses by the ministry. Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhary in his remarks said that the issuing of more than 32,000 fake weapon licenses is not an unusual issue, adding a mammoth fraud of money has been noticed in Interior Ministry. The lawyer of accused Shahzad during the hearing said that the interior ministry had issued over 32,000 weapons licenses and these licenses were issued to ministers and their closed ones. Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday, in his remarks, said thousands of forged licenses have been circulated all across country, leaving people at risk of their lives.Later, the hearing was adjourned till March 25.
