ISLAMABAD - At the concluding session of International Conference on Sufism and Peace, the writers and intellectuals from 30 countries including Pakistan have unanimously adopted a resolution stressing for the promotion of role of Sufism and peace for peaceful coexistence, cultural harmony and understanding in turbulent world. We have noted that multi-cultural society in the world has now become the only way to promote humanistic ideals imbedded in the spiritual development of mankind as enunciated by Sufism, the resolution titled Islamabad Declaration says. The Islamabad Declaration condemned all forms of terrorism not only in Pakistan but also in the world. The galaxy of writers assembled in Pakistan thinks that all of us should not only show tolerance to all creeds - regardless of race, creed and all forms of political persuasions - but should also work for the acceptance diversity of creeds as the flowering of pluralism and multiculturalism as the only way to the nourishment and sustenance of human civilisation, it observed. The participants observed the role of civil societies in creating social awareness about inter-religious harmony, human rights and respect of law, as well as the role of Sufism in promoting tolerance, mutual respect and human dignity. , and said they were part of all religions and civilisations. At the concluding session, the conference called for strengthening communication between the representatives of religions, faiths and non-governmental institutions, and affirmed that the differences and misconceptions should be sorted out on the principle of respecting all faiths and persuasions. Practical steps should be taken to promote positive aspects of global harmony and peace. The participants also affirmed that the concrete and evidence-based solutions to tensions and misconceptions among various societies and religions be sought with the advice of intellectuals, writers, thinkers, artists and organisations striving for peace. They recalled that writers and intellectuals working with print and electronic media should adopt more mature and responsible code of conduct. They affirmed commitment to peace, cooperation, harmony, reconciliation and dialogue towards a culture of peace as part of the solution to the challenges the world especially Pakistan had been facing today. It also acknowledged the memorable contribution which PAL and Government of Pakistan had made by making strenuous efforts to have the interaction of the galaxy of human intellect and wisdom to demonstrate that the primacy of pen and peace over the forces of darkness and turbulence from the land of Data Ganj Buksh, Bulleh Shah, Shah Latif Bhitayee, Rahman Baba, Mast Tawakli, Sachel Sarmast and Khawaja Ghulam Farid.
