QUETTA-Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani has expressed his greetings on the occasion of signing of the 7th NFC Award by President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday evening. In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Raisani said that the consensus on the NFC Award was a good sign for strengthening the Federation and relations between the four federating units. He said that it was equally good for democracy to take firm roots in the country. Raisani expressed his felicitation to President Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and the provincial leaderships and the NFC team to make this very important national issue finalised. He was of the view that despite different political parties with their individual manifestos the signing of the National Finance Commissions 7th Award was a witness of the true colour of democracy, which the past dictatorial regimes could never have produced. He maintained that the credit equally goes to the Federation and all the Federating units in finalising the much sought after national issue, however, he added, the Punjab leadership must be appreciated for showing flexibility and realising the genuine demands of the smaller provinces, especially Balochistan. Raisani maintained that it was high time that we focused our energies for the betterment and welfare of our masses and shun parochial approach while interacting with one another. He expressed his hope that the present democratic set up in place would continue its responsibilities towards national cohesion by addressing other pressing issues including provincial autonomy to the federating units in accordance with the 1940 resolutions. Raisani also praised the role of provincial Finance Minister Mir Asim Kurd Gaillu and his team for their untiring efforts during the formulation of the NFC Award.
