While Osama bin Laden is supposed to have been killed by the US Navy SEALS through a helicopter raid on his Abbotabad abode on May 2, 2011, his three wives, nine children and five other male members of the family continue to remain under Pakistan’s custody. According to Interior Minister Rahman Malik the government of Pakistan has charged Osama’s three widows with illegally entering and staying in Pakistan.
The court will decide their case. In my opinion it was more important to trace and punish the officials who facilitated their entry into Pakistan than keeping these ladies under detention. If the ladies are asked ‘how did you manage to enter Pakistan?’ their reply that ‘while we were loitering about in search of shelter we found the Pakistan border wide open, so we just walked in’ would be quite pertinent.
