Islamabad - Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Qamara Zaman Chaudhary on Monday visited NAB Rawalpindi Bureau and reviewed its performance, while he ordered the DG NAB Rawalpindi to gear up the investigation of important cases.

During the briefing, DG NAB Rawalpindi Zahir Shah informed the chairman NAB about the current status of rental power projects (RPPs) cases and Modaraba scams. He said that NAB Rawalpindi was presently dealing with 12 RPPs cases and filed 5 references including Karkey Ship, Piranghaib Multan, Sahuwal Sailkot, Guddu Sindh, Naudero II Sindh in respective accountability courts. The main accused in these references are Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, ex-prime minister, Shaukat Tareen, ex-minister for finance, Ismail Qureshi, ex-secretary water and power/chairman PEPCO, Shahid Rafi, ex-secretary/chairman PEPCO, and Tahir Basharat Cheema, ex-MD PEPCO. He informed that other three cases of RPPs including Summundri Road, Naudero-I Sindh, and Bhikki Sheikhupara, are at investigation stage and four RPPs cases including Sharqpur Pvt Ltd, M/S Reshma Power Generation Raiwand, M/S Young Gen Power Ltd and M/S Gulf Rental Power Pvt Ltd are at inquiry stage.

Zahir Shah said NAB Rawalpindi is currently investigating 96 cases of multibillion rupees Modaraba scam, in which 8 cases are at reference stage, 14 are under investigation, 5 are at inquiry stage, 2 are at complaint verification stage and 67 cases are on complaint stage. The NAB has so far received 42819 complaints/claims from affectees of Modaraba scams. The NAB Rawalpindi has recovered Rs 1.734 billion, houses, lands, and vehicles in Modaraba scams, he added

DG NAB Rawalpindi informed that seven references have been filed in accountably court in Modaraba scam, details of references are M/S Fayyazi Gujrawal industries Pvt Ltd, Elixer Group, Mezban Trading Company, Al Wasay Group, M/S Bolan City, Islamic Traders PVT LTD and Bilal Khan Bangash etc.

The DG NAB informed that NAB Rawalpindi Bureau has so far arrested 30 accused persons in Modarba scam.

The chairman NAB said that NAB Rawalpindi is dealing with important cases. It plays a prominent role in contributing towards the overall performance of NAB. He directed to arrest all proclaimed offenders and absconders by using all resources. He instructed that all complaints verifications, inquiries and investigation should be handled transparently, on the basis of evidence on merit.
