ISLAMABAD - Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday said that Pakistan looked to the international community for the rehabilitation of the Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs), which required an amount of 1.5 billion dollars.
He further said that the ongoing operation to eliminate the scourge of militancy had yielded good results and that an amount of 1.5 billion dollars were required for the operation and rehabilitation of the TDPs.
He made these remarks during a meeting with German Ambassador, Cyrill Nunn.
Cyril Nunn told Dar that German Parliamentary delegation (South Asian
Parliamentary Group) was scheduled to visit Pakistan from April 14-18.
During the 5-day stay, the delegation would undertake visits to Islamabad and Karachi and meet Parliamentary leaders of both the Houses.
The visit was aimed at enhancing inter-Parliamentary exchanges between the two countries, Nunn said. He also informed the Minister about the visit of German Business delegation with representation from the automotive industry from April 20-23 to explore avenues of economic and business cooperation.
He said that the business delegation would take part in the mega cities conference. He also requested for the delegation’s meeting with the Finance Minister. Welcoming the visits, the Minister said, Germany had been a great friend and economic partner of Pakistan.
Germany had always extended Pakistan valuable support in important matters at international fora, he said.
While he appreciated interest of the German companies in the automotive industry, he invited them to take up energy projects in Pakistan.
He said that the government had plans to add 10,000 mw plus electricity to national grid against a shortfall of 4000 to 4500 mw.
China was extending due cooperation to alleviate the problem of energy shortage,Dar said.
He especially drew the Ambassador’s attention to the envisaged 3600 mw LNG projects where German companies could readily invest besides considering other ventures.
The Minister also shared with the Ambassador details on the current economic profile of the country. He said that with the concerted efforts Pakistan’s economy had attained a position of stability, which was recognised by the international rating agencies and financial institutions. “Now we have our eyes set on entering the league of emerging economies”, the Minister added.
