Rawalpindi - Government Degree College for Women, Peshawar Road, celebrated Annual Sports Day yesterday. On the occasion, former Principal Najma Anwar was the chief guest while incumbent Principal Robina Qureshi, and other faculty members were also present.
The college students participated in various competitions including recitation of the Holy Quran and Naat, band display (led by Miss Sonia Shehzadi), PT show, aerobics, 100 meter race, live performance, kids race, under-11 kids race, fancy dress show, tribute to love and other games. Robina Qureshi welcomed the chief guest and hoisted college flag during a ceremony. Addressing the students and college faculty, Najma Anwar said that co-curricular activities and games pushed the students to find ways to improve themselves and go forward step by step. “I like competition for the desire to win,” she said adding that Pakistani girls are talented and they should get higher education to serve the nation in a good manner. “To educate a boy is like as to improve personality of one human but to educate a girl is tantamount to improve the life style of a generation,” she added.
Earlier, Robina Qureshi presented the college annual progress report and expressed her satisfaction over performance of faculty and students. At the end, prizes and certificates were presented to winner students. Talking to The Nation, Sonia Shehzadi, who is heading the college band competition, said that organising such events provides a healthy environment to students to learn in a better way. She said that educated girls could play a pivotal role in betterment of country.
