Salman Ahmad promises free Junoon concert if Pakistan beat India in WT20 match

If there is one thing that Pakistanis are extremely enthusiastic about, it has to be cricket. The sport has the power to unite all Pakistanis, irrespective of their differences otherwise and create a sense of patriotism that is impressive. Despite the fact that Pakistan hasn’t seen may cricket matches within the country lately, the passion for this sport never has and never will die out.

A match between Pakistan and India always meets enthusiasm by both sides. This Saturday, the T20 match between the two countries is expected to receive no less enthusiasm. Preparations for screenings are already underway. Amidst these preparations has come an announcement that is bound to add to the patriotism and enthusiasm of Pakistanis. Salman Ahmad  has promised a free Junoon concert at the Wagah border if Pakistan wins the match on Saturday.


Speaking to The Nation about the timing and purpose of the concert, he said, “This year is also Junoon's 25th anniversary the free concert will be timed with anniversary celebrations. I wrote and composed the song Jazba Junoon for the cricket World Cup & I have played professional cricket with Rameez Raja , Wasim Akram & Shahid Afridi . Cricket & music unite Pakistan, especially the youth.”

When asked about why the Wagah Border was selected to be the venue, he explained that arts, culture and sports should be free of political interference . “Culture humanises what politics demonises,” he added.

This most certainly is great news for Junoon fans. Jazba Junoon is one song that will forever be associated with cricket. A concert by the creator of Jazba Junoon will add to the joy of cricket supporters if Pakistan wins. When asked about whether Pakistanis will be seeing more concerts and perhaps an album by Junoon in the future, Salman Ahmed said, “YES, this free concert is just the beginning of the celebrations.”



Salman Ahmad has has served as the UN Goodwill Ambassador for HIV/AIDS Programme towards spreading awareness about HIV in South Asia. While working with the Pakistan's media to help initiate peace between India and Pakistan, Ahmad continues to produce documentaries and solo guitar albums. He can now be seen to be working for the eradication of Polio from Pakistan, “InshAllah as Rotary international polio goodwill ambassador, I hope that we work hard and make Pakistan polio free too in 2016.”
