LAHORE - The Lahore High Court issued notices to federal government and establishment division in a petition filed against appointment of Dr Mukhtar Ahmad as Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC).

Munir Ahmad, a local citizen, had filed the petition through his counsel Advocate Azhar Siddique and pointed out that the respondent chairman was appointed in violation of rules and merit.

He said Dr Ahmad lacked qualification and experience required for the post. He said the impugned appointment was a result of political consideration. The counsel asked the court to set aside the appointment of Dr Ahmad as chairman HEC for being unlawful.

After hearing initial arguments, Justice Shahid Waheed issued notice to the chairman and put off further hearing for a month.
