Polio worker seriously injured in firing

SHIKARPUR - One lady health worker (LHW) was seriously injured in firing by a few armed men.
She came under attack when she was returning home after administering polio drops at village Koreja in Garhi Yasin police precincts on Wednesday.
According to reports, some armed culprits opened fires on the LHW namely Afshan, wife of Mehtab Mahar, when she was coming back on a motorcycle with her brother after performing the polio duty. She received serious bullet injuries while the assailants fled from the scene.
She was brought to Tehsil Headquarter Hospital, Garhi Yasin from where she was referred to Civil Hospital, Larkana in serious condition.
Shikarpur Deputy Commissioner Sikandar Ali Khushk, Garhi Yasin Assistant Commissioner Naeem Ahmed Abbasi, Mukhtiarkar Khadim Hussain Kutirio and other police officers rushed to the hospital at Garhi Yasin and managed to send the injured LHW to Civil Hospital Larkana after ensuring first-aid provision to her.
Dr Tasawar Memon, Dr Javed and other anti-polio staffers demanded the Shikarpur DC to provide foolproof security to the polio team workers during the drive. He assured the polio workers of providing full security during the drive.
Later, police conducted search operation in village Yasin Khan Khooh and arrested one of the assailants Khuda Bux Marfani.
In another incident, two other LHWs saved themselves from the attack of dogs with the help of villagers. The incident occurred when they were administering polio drops to children at village Khuda Baksh Marfani on Wednesday.
The two LHWs including Ms Zeenat and Ms Sartaj, deputed on anti-polio campaign at village Khuda Bakhsh Marfani and its adjoining areas, were attacked by dogs. They were safe in the incident. No FIRs were registered of both the incidents till these news were filed.
Moreover, Garhi Yasin police claimed to have arrested two absconders in injured condition after an encounter at Naushahro Abro link road the other day.
According to Station House Officer Hajan Gadani, armed men tied to escape when they saw the patrolling police approaching there. After an encounter, police managed to arrest two dacoits identified as Jeainad and Abdul Hameed Kehar in injured condition. Their accomplices managed to escape from the scene. Police have recovered a gun, a pistol and two motorcycles from their possession.
On the other side, Sarwar Shar, father of the arrested dacoit Jeainad Shar, claimed that police have arrested his son two days ago. He denied Jeainad’s involvement in crimes.
Police shifted them to Tehsil Headquarter Hospital, Garhi Yasin. Doctors termed their condition stable. An FIR was not registered till this story was filed.
Meanwhile, Larkana Commissioner Ghulam Akbar Laghari presided over a high level meeting at Deputy Commissioner Office and reviewed the arrangements to restore Central Imambargah Karbala Moula here on Tuesday.
Laghari claimed the law and order situation was under control while police were keeping vigilant eye at the miscreants as well as operation against criminals is also underway in the Katcha area of Shikarpur. He directed Municipal Officer Lala Jahanzaib to prepare a scheme worth Rs1 million to rehabilitate the Central Imambargah Karbala Moula within a week so that the remaining construction work may be completed. Shikarpur Deputy Commissioner Sikandar Ali Khushk, SSP Shikarpur Nasir Aftab Khattak, district officer buildings, district officer education, municipal committee officers and a delegation of Shuhada Committee Shikarpur attended the meeting.
