This refers to Professor Aziz-ud-Din Ahmed's article in The Nation titled "Living in an ivory tower made of statistics" published on May 7. One fails to understand as to why the learned Professor finds fault with presentation of statistical data in the Senate by Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik with regard to the situation in Balochistan? The purpose of statistical data is to show the situation on ground in clear terms. The present democratic government needs to be applauded for initiating much-needed reforms in the restive province of Balochistan. It is through political process that we can find lasting solutions. -HADI AHMAD, via e-mail, May 8.
