They killed themselves?

Mr Khurshid Anwar (The Nation May 13) deserves my gratitude for educating me on his version of how murders of the Bhutto family members took place. Besides, I have to thank him for considering me an educated person. I agree with him also on the view that logic is often a victim in idolatry. But he is himself gone too far to the other extreme in absolving General Zia from the charge of assassination of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and in the mysterious death of Mir Shah Nawaz Bhutto too. I don't need to go into well-documented details of the judicial murder of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Mr Anwar quotes Jamshed Marker to 'prove' his point concerning Mir Shah Nawaz and also points an accusing finger at the Bhutto family with regard to Mir Murtaza's assassination. On Bhutto Senior's murder, the confession of former Chief Justice (Rtd) Nasim Hasan Shah, who spilled the beans due to a lately reawakened voice of the conscience, is often conveniently ignored. Mr Anwar argues, rather heartlessly, that Bhuttos themselves were principally responsible for their own deaths. Does he expect us to believe that the anti Bhutto establishment had no role whatsoever in the tragedies in question? With that sort of extreme views, I am surprised he does not defend Musharraf on the allegations of intriguing for the gruesome assassination of his main rival on December 27, 2007. Personally I am interested only in finding out the truth about death of Benazir Bhutto. Nothing more and nothing less. -B. A. MALIK, Islamabad, May 13.
