ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Pakistans state trading agency TCP has awarded a contract for the importation of 100,000 tonnes of sugar to a Chinese company at $488 a tonne C&F. The agency said the offer by Yunnan Coal Chemical Industry Group Company Limited was the lowest and the award had finalised contracts for 675,000 tonnes of sugar under a government directive. It said around 200,000 tonnes of this quantity had arrived. Two more tenders, each for the importation of 200,000 tonnes, are due to open on May 22 and 29. The government initially asked the TCP to import a total of 500,000 tonnes of white sugar this year, after which it issued several tenders from Dec 31, to meet demand and maintain strategic reserves. But the TCP later said it had been given a mandate to import a total of 1.2 million tonnes of sugar this year.
