LAHORE - A 40-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter committed suicide by jumping in the Canal near Mughalpura here on Sunday, police said. Police investigators said that it seemed the woman and her daughter committed suicide due to poverty or over some domestic reason. The deceased were yet to be identified. As per details, bodies of two women were seen floating on the Canal near Dharampura Bridge at about 3:15pm on Sunday. A local of the area phoned the police concerned and informed them about the bodies. Mughalpura Police Station Sub-Inspector Ashiq Hussain said that nothing could be established about the deaths of the women unless the police received any solid evidence. We are helpless to reveal their whereabouts and cannot tell any thing about their relation either, he added. He, however, claimed that the woman and the girl from their apparent condition appeared to be the members of a poor family, adding they would have committed suicide to get rid of the poverty. He further said that not a single clue could be furnished about the final cause of their death. In reply to a question, the SI said that the police were investigating the modus operandi of the accused, if the women had been murdered. We are trying to find out how the murderer could kill them when there was not a single wound or even cut on both the bodies, he maintained. The police made numerous announcements through the mosques, but none of the citizens claimed to own the dead bodies, which were later shifted to the morgue for autopsies. Further investigations are underway. 6 held for making merry Six people including three young girls were arrested while making merry from a local hotel in Naulakha police precincts on Sunday.
