Dr Muhammad Ali Sheikh, the Vice Chancellor of Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU), has said the government agreed to provide Rs7 billion for the construction of a new campus in the Education City and a 15-floor SMIU Tower in the old campus.

Speaking at the tree-plantation ceremony at the new campus of SMIU in Education City on Thursday, he said the construction work of the new campus and 15-floor SMIU Tower would be completed in five years.

He said the previous Sindh government had given 100-acre land to SMIU for its new campus in the Education City where the initial construction work began. He said the former chief minister had taken his personal interest in giving land.

Dr Sheikh said more than ten new departments will be opened in the new campus of the SMIU. Apart from it, a medical college, engineering college, the SMIU Hospital and hostels for local and foreign boy and girl students and residential houses for employees of the SMIU would be constructed. He said the SMIU is imparting quality education without any discrimination like the Indus River, which is quenching thirst of the people without any discrimination.

KU admissions

 The University of Karachi has announced that the last date for submission of admission forms for MPhil/PhD and MS (Surgery)/MD (Medicine) has been extended up to May 28.

The forms will be received by the relevant Department/Centre/Institute for admission in MPhil/PhD. However, for MS (Surgery)/MD (Medicine) and Law, it will be received by BASR Section. The list of eligible candidates will be displayed on June 3 whereas admit cards for test and interview will be issued from June 4 to 7 June. The entry test will be conducted on June 9. After display of list of successful candidates on June 12, the successful MPhil/PhD candidates will be interviewed on June 17. The final merit list of provisional admission will be displayed on the university website and departmental notice boards on June 24.

Also, the University of Karachi has notified for the information of all concerned that the last date for admission to First and Second Year of BA(Pass)/BSc (Pass) and BCom classes is extended to June 13 with a late fee of Rs1000. A condition applies here that the admitted students will have to complete the requisite attendance by the end of the session as per the university rules.

Revised election schedule

University of Karachi (UoK) Registrar Prof Dr Mansoor Ahmed has announced a revised schedule for election to the Academic Council and Senate from the constituency of College Principals. The elections will now be held on Thursday May 30 at the Arts Auditorium from 9am to 1pm.
