The Career Fair 2013 at the Government College University Lahore Thursday received an enthusiastic response as thousands of the university graduates and final year students flocked at the fair to explore employment opportunities in reputed international and national organizations, besides seeking information about the available foreign scholarships.

As many as 40 organisations including Pakistan International Airline (PIA), WWF Pakistan, Shaukat Khan Memorial Cancer Hospital and Qarshi Industries set up their stalls at the Career Fair organized by the GCU Career Guidance and Placement Center and provided the students information about the available positions in their organisations. The companies’ executives also conducted on-campus interviews to shortlist the candidates.

Besides cellular companies, a couple of media houses also set up their stall and interviewed the students for the posts of copy editors, anchors and reporters.      

However, the stalls of United States Education Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) remained the centre of attraction at the fair, where students were briefed about the various foreign scholarships and also guided about the procedures, requirements and eligibility criteria.

GCU VC Dr Khaleeq-ur-Rahman and NETSOL Chief Executive Officer Salim Ghauri were the chief guests at the fair, while GCU Director Research, Innovation and Commercialization Prof Dr Muhammad Zakria Butt, Director Facilities Yousaf Bashir and Placement Officer Hassaan-ul-Haq were also present.    

The VC visited stalls of all companies and discussed with the company executives their recruitment polices and criteria. Prof Rahman said that GCU did not only concentrate on theoretical teaching but also laid a particular stress on the confidence and character building of its students, so that they can perform exceptionally well in their professional lives.

Punjab University Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran has appointed Prof Dr Muhammad Sharif as Chairman, Department of Mathematics for a period of three years and Prof Dr Ghulam Moeen-ud-Din as Chairman, Department of Persian till further order.
