Election Tribunal on Thursday ordered recounting of votes in NA-217.
Syed Javaid Ali Shah, a PPP candidate of NA-217, had submitted an application asking the tribunal to order recounting of votes. In the petition, the PPP candidate had accused PML-F’s winning candidate Syed Kazim Ali Shah of massive rigging.
The four-member tribunal comprising of Justice Muhammad Roshan Essani, Justice Riaz Kiyani, Justice Shahzad Akbar and Justice Fazulul Rehman, after listen the arguments from both sides, ordered to the returning officer concerned and civil judge Gambat to recount votes and submit a report in this regard.
Meanwhile, a complete strike was observed on the call of the PML-F against the alleged rigging in May 11’s electoral process.
All cities of the district including Khairpur, Baberloi, Pir Jo Goth, Gambat, Sobhodero, Ranipur, Setharja, Kot-Bunglow, Piryaloi and others parts remained completely shut. All markets, bazaars, business centres and shops remained closed. Huge protest rallies were taken out by the PML-F workers who also blocked the National Highway near Tandomusti. The protesters demanded the Election Commission of Pakistan for re-polling on National and Provincial Assembly seats.
At least 16 activists sustained injuries in clashes took place between the PPP and PML-F groups at various places. The injured shifted to various hospitals of the district.
Meanwhile, three people were killed and four others hurt in an armed clash between two political groups in Kumb over the issue of strike.
The clash took place between the PPPP and PML –N and PML-F workers in Kumb city over the issue of closing shops in connection with the strike call against rigging in polls. Both groups opened indiscriminate fire against each other. One Shaamsuddin Wassan was killed on the spot other 12 injured.
They were hurried to Kotdiji, and Khairpur civil hospital for treatment where two other Nadeem Wasan and Feroze Gull Gopang succumbed to their injuries. The injured are including Farooq Wassan, Khadim Wassan, Faisal Punjabi and others who are under treatment. According to doctors the condition of other two injured is critical.
