RAWALPINDI - A GPU vehicle hit and damaged two planes of national flag carrier Pakistan International Airline (PIA) parked in the hanger area at the Benazir Bhutto Islamabad International Airport (BBIIAP) here Friday.
According to sources, both the damaged planes have been grounded while PIA flights have been deeply affected. The damaged planes (PK-607 and PK-405) were scheduled to leave for Gilgit and Skardu.
The sources said that a speedy GPU truck collided with two PIA airplanes that were parked in the hanger area of the airport. As a result, both the planes damaged badly.
The speeding truck, which collided with the airplanes, also belonged to PIA.
The damaged PIA planes were fifty-four seats, which were used on short routes like from Islamabad to Lahore or other areas.
An official of PIA told The Nation that this collision accident took place due to the negligence of the GPU truck driver.
PIA spokesperson said that, an investigation of this incident has been started. All the scheduled flights of PIA were cancelled due to this incident. After this incident the scheduled flight from Islamabad to Lahore departed after 4 hours delay, he added.
