ISLAMABAD-Defending champions Wapda, PAF, Navy and Army entered semifinals of the 49th National Volleyball Championship after registering contrasting victories in their last league matches played here at Liaqat Gymnasium here on Monday.

In the first match of the day, POF faced stiff resistance from Punjab before registering 3-1 victory. POF took the first set 26-24 after coming from behind. It was only their inexperience, which cost Punjab, otherwise, they could have easily defeated their star-studied opponents. Punjab deservingly took the second set 25-21, but POF took the third set 25-20 and fourth set 25-22.

In the second match of the day, Police outpaced KP 3-1. Police easily won the first set 25-14 but in the second set, they faced some resistance from the opponents before winning it 33-13. Although KP took the third set 25-17, yet Police bounced back and won the fourth set 27-25 to register victory.

In the third match of the day, champions Wapda outclassed Navy 3-0. Navy did provide some resistance in the first set before Wapda winning it 25-22. Wapda won the second set 25-16 while they also won the third set after a tough battle 25-21.

Wapda will face Army challenge in the first semifinal at 3pm, while PAF will take on Navy in the second semifinal at 5pm today (Tuesday). The national broadcaster will telecast the semifinals live.
