LAHORE The Lahorites are all set to celebrate Eidul Azha today (Wednesday) with religious fervour and a commitment to sacrifice everything in obedience to the commands of Allah Almighty, as did His beloved Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to set an example for the Muslims. In view of the terror threats, this time too, the Eid is being celebrated amidst tight security to be maintained by police and other security agencies. Eidul Azha or Eid-e-Qurban is an Islamic religious festival on the occasion of which the Muslims all over the world sacrifice animals to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son Ismail (AS) as an act of obedience to Allah Almighty. Eid prayers will be offered at mosques, open places, eidgahs, imambargahs in the City while tens of thousands of sacrificial animals will be sacrificed. The main congregations to offer eid prayers in the City will be held at Badshahi Masjid, Data Sahib Masjid, Masjid Mian Mir Sahib, Masjid-e-Shahuda, University Ground, Manoora, Jamia Naeemia, Garhi Shahu, Bagh-e-Jinnah, Masjid Minhajul Quran and others. Thousands of security personnel have been deployed at various mosques and eidgahs while police patrolling will also continue on their routes and around them throughout. Traffic wardens have also been given special instructions to maintain smooth flow of traffic during the time of Eid prayers. In the City, certain points have been declared sensitive where special security arrangements will be maintained. The Solid Waste Management (SWM) has constituted special squads to keep the City clean of the waste of animals sacrificed. The Management has set up its camps at various places. Meanwhile, a number of camps have also been established in the City by various parties, religious organisations and NGOs to collect hides. A large number of butchers from outside the City and villages have also reached Lahore to slaughter the animals at their chosen rates. In view of the large scale exodus of the people from outstations, a highly reduced public and traffic movement was witnessed in the City on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Rescue 1122 has been put on high alert while the offs of rescue workers have also been cancelled for security purposes. The special police mobile posts have been established in Ayub Park, Nawaz Sharif Park, Jinnah Park, Eidgah Asghar Mall Road, Liaquat Bagh, Jamia Mosque Raja Bazaar and Civil Lines Police Training School.
