Coming from a Muslim League family, I am compelled to write about the merger of the Leagues in response to Dr Ijaz Ahsans Article on this subject. Muslim League has been a mistress of the establishment for decades. This must stop. Mian Nawaz Sharif has taken a principled stand not to join his former establishment toadies. The Founding Fathers were very clear on this point. Whosoever crossed the line and flirted with the establishment was expelled from the league. I remember as a child of attending the grand reception of Khawaja Nazimuddin in Lahore in 1964. Ahmed Saeed Kirmani was a candidate for the seat of MPA from Lahore. While being in the Council League he had links with the Sarkari (Convention) League. Khawaja Sahib expelled him from the party. In all fairness, there should be only two Leagues: Anti-establishment and Pro-establishment. For the sake of Pakistan and its fledging democracy establishment politicians should be exposed, cornered and then eliminated from the political arena. Political process must continue with no future role for establishment or its supporters. Our 50 years struggle against the evil empire should not go in vain. DR FARID A. MALIK, Islamabad, November 15.
