LAHORE - The workers of the Railway Washing Line continued their strike on Tuesday over non-payment of salaries by the department, which further added to passengers woes just a day ahead of Eidul Azha. The employees protest demonstration affected the trains operation, which led the homebound passengers stran-ded at the station till 2pm. Huge crowd was witnessed at the Lahore Railway Station on Tuesday. The employees sho-uted slogans against the authorities, saying there were mere claims and promises regarding their salaries. The PR, then realising the situation manage Rs 90 million cash and issued the salaries to protesting workers, which resulted end of strike and the trains operation resumed at evening. The schedule of the trains was interrupted by four to six hours at the Lahore Railway Station. The Quetta Express reached four hours late at the destination while the trains departed from Karachi like Allama Iqbal Express, Tezgam Express and Karachi Express also reached three to five hours late at the station. The passengers had to face difficulties reaching their homes on time and hundreds of them might reach a day after the Eid. Braving the hassle, many of them remained at the station and waited for trains resumption while many left the station and got taxies and other means of transport to join their families at homes. The insiders of the PR said that if the government would not pay attention towards the railway department, the situation would further become critical in future. The railways minister had recently pointed out the situation saying the department was unable to pay the salaries to its employees.
