ISLAMABAD (APP) - President Asif Ali Zardari has urged the nation to help end poverty and exploitation and remember their less fortunate brethren on the festive occasion of Eidul Azha. The President in a message felicitated the Muslims throughout the world and particularly those in Pakistan but asked the countrymen 'not to forget those who suffer and endure, and are deprived of true joy. The President said it saddens him that so many of the people are living in despair and misery brought by une-mployment, low wages or lack of justice. Let us therefore also strive and pray on this day that the deprivations of the people will soon be over and they regain their civil and economic rig-hts. The President said the celebrations indeed were a commemoration of the supr-eme sacrifice offered by Ha-zrat Ibrahim (may Allah be pleased with him). Meanwhile, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has stressed the need for develo-ping the spirit of sacrifice to mitigate the sufferings of needy and deserving. In his message, the Prime Minister urged for giving prio-rity to national interests over personal ones, for the solidarity and welfare of Pakistan. He mentioned the people affected by the recent floods and terrorism, and said all countrymen should embrace such people on the occasion of Eid. Gilani said, I appeal to the nation on Eidul Azha to take care of the needs of those people whose earning hands have been martyred by the terrorists. On this day, we should include such deserving people in our joys who were affected by the devastating floods and are facing difficult times. He said the country was now at the critical juncture of the history where it was confront-ing terrorism and extremism besides a large influx of flood victims living under open skies. In view of these circums-tances, there is a need to dev-elop in ourselves the spirit of sacrifice especially those ones on whom Allah Almighty besto-wed comfortable and easy lives, he said.
