Hearing in plea against Zaka Ashraf adjourned

LAHORE - Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed of Lahore High Court on Wednesday directed the registrar officer of court to combine all the petitions challenging the appointment of Zaka Ashraf as Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman. The judge issued these orders while hearing a petition requesting to set aside the appointment of Zaka Ashraf as PCB Chairman. The court observed that a similar petition was already pending. The court will resume the hearing by Nov 24. Advocate Tariq Asad filed the petition appealing to set aside the appointment of Zaka Ashraf. He stated that Ashraf had no experience regarding the management and also did not have education qualification to hold this prestigious office. He said Ashrafs appointment was not on merit and it was merely a political appointment. He submitted that Zaka Ashraf was made PCB chairman on political consideration. Advocate Asad said as per the ICC rules direct appointments in a cricket board could not be made and the general body of the board will have the right to elect its chairman. He asserted that according to International Cricket Council (ICC), appointments on political basis could not be allowed in PCB. He submitted that the board of directors had not recommended the name of Zaka Ashraf for chairmanship and federal government bypassed the board of directors.
